“Teachers often assume that the physical security and safety needs of their students are ensured, but in many schools they are not…When physical security and safety, including sleep are challenged, students will use most of their time, energy, and creativity simply trying to survive. Using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory, instructors can assist students in reaching higher levels of success in the classroom or clinical settings. They can facilitate meeting basic and higher needs and creating a learning environment that caters to moving through the domains of learning.
